CM Khandu and his team addresses public meeting at Walong

Chief Minister Pema Khandu today attended a public meeting here in his 2-day visit to Hayuliang Assembly constituency. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Home Minister Kumar Waii, Art & Culture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai, State BJP President Tapir Gao, Health Parliamentary Secretary Phurpa Tsering, RWD Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi and Hayuliang MLA Dasanglu Pul accompanied the Chief Minister.

Earlier the Chief Minister and the visiting dignitaries were accorded a warm welcome by local people dressed in traditional Mishmi and Meyor attires.

Khandu in his speech appealed the Meyor and Mishmi community to work together and maintain old-age bond of brotherhood. He said higher regions in Arunachal such as Walong, Tawang has high scope for tourism for its scenic beauty. However, despite its beautiful landscape, Walong has failed to attract tourists due to security reasons owing to its nearness to international border. Due to defence issues, the area is also uncovered under tourist circuit, which covers only upto Hayuliang. The Chief Minister promised to take up the matter to extend the tourist circuit till Walong and Kibithoo with home and defence ministry. He said since present central govt is focused on development of border areas, Khandu expressed optimistic that the centre will surely consider the proposal. He said the development in true sense is only when people residing near China border feels part of it.

He said Anjaw district has high scope for tourism, the state government has considered the home stays and hotels to be brought under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Swavalamban Yojana (DDUSY) scheme. He requested the Deputy Commissioner to accept all applications for hotels and home stays and immediately send it to state government.

The Chief Minister informed that since Anjaw has high scope in biodiversity, the Patanjali group of Industries is keen to set up a training centre and factory in the foothills. He said only they require is land on lease and is ready to purchase produce directly from the farmers through which menace of middlemen can be avoided. Accordingly he requested Tezu administration to identify suitable land for purpose.

On shortage of PDS ration for the district, the CM said the area being non-rice producing announced to increase the quote immediately. He also assured to immediately fulfil the shortages of doctors and health staffs in the newly opened Kalikho Pul Memorial District Hospital at Hayuliang. On incompletion of work for ADC office at Hayuliang, the Chief Minister announced Rs 2.5 crore for completion of the works. For construction of road from Hayuliang bridge point towards Hawai on the left bank of Lohit river, he promised to immediately sanction funds under RIDF for start of first phase of work.

Responding to a memorandum, the Chief Minister okayed the proposal for up gradation of Yatong Middle School to Secondary school. He also announced an outdoor stadium for Hayuliang to tap the sporting talent of the district. To connect remote village of Warti and Musai, he promised to sanction a suspension bridge. To a proposal from Meyor community for a Gompa, the Chief Minister agreed to fund for the project.

He further announced a sports stadium for Govt Middle School, Walong. On request from ZPC chairperson for roads and health care facilities in Halai Pani, the Chief Minister assured to sanction fund for these projects. He also announced to sanction funds for a memorial park in Hawai to be dedicated to former CM late Kalikho Pul in Hawai in this financial year.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said Anjaw district has scope for medicinal plants, potential in agriculture and horticulture sector and is rich in biodiversity. He said state government is working to bring out suitable policy in this regard to benefit the farmers. He also said Walong lacks proper marketing facilities and assured to work to improve it.

Home Minister Kumar Waii in his speech appealed the two communities of Mishmi and Meyor to maintain communal harmony and to work together for development of the district. He announced the creation of posts for lady constables for Anjaw district, whose recruitment will be drawn from the district only. He also announced Rs 3 crore for a fire station for Anjaw district and Rs 1.5 crore for a SP office in Hayuliang. He further informed that Rs 96 lakhs has been released for construction of  police quarters in Hawai.

Art & Culture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai thanked the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for immediate release of first phase of fund under RIDF for construction of road from Hayuliang to Hawai from left bank of Lohit river. He also thanked the Chief Minister for raising the PDS quota for rice for the district. He further thanked the CM for the release of Rs 2.5 crores for completion of ADC office at Hayuliang, which had remained incomplete due to shortage of funds.

Remembering the contribution of former CM late Kalikho Pul for the constituency, Gao in his speech assured that the all unfinished work initiated by late CM will be completed by the Khandu led BJP government.

He appreciated the communal harmony between the Mishmi and Meyor community and said that such harmonious relation will take the constituency ahead in development sphere. Gao also requested the locals to preserve the greenery of the constituency as presence of such vegetation gives the area its beauty. He further hoped that with completion of ALG here, the constituency will be connected air services bringing in tourists.

Earlier this afternoon, Khandu dedicated the 60-metre Langwinti Bridge connecting Walong and Kibithoo constructed by the BRO under Project Udayak. He later visited the Walong War memorial and laid a wreath paying tribute to brave jawans who died fighting the Chinese Army in 1962.
