BSF Seizes Huge Quantity of Silver

Troops of Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force ( BSF ) deployed in Coochbehar, seized silver weighing 7.976 kgs and apprehended one Indian cattle smuggler yesterday, near the International Boundary in Coochbehar District of West Bengal.

On specific input provided by BSF intelligence unit, about smuggling of silver from India to Bangladesh, surveillance was mounted in the border area on Monday. At about 1540 hrs, a suspect approached the target area with the consignment and tried to throw it across the border fencing, towards Bangladesh. However, when the alert troops swooped on to the area, the suspect abandoned the consignment and fled from the spot. The party recovered 7.976 kgs silver in two securely packed packets, which was verified to be genuine. The approximate cost of the seized consignment is Rs 3,36,601/-. Efforts are on to trace the suspect.

On the other hand the apprehended  cattle smuggler has been identified as Mukul Sheikh (18), S/O Dilbar Hussain, R/O vill-Karala South, PO- Natkobari, PS-Dinhata, Distt- Coochbehar(WB). He was apprehended by the troops of BOP Karala along with one cattle head, while he was trying to smuggle it from India to Bangladesh. He has also revealed names of his associates during preliminary questioning.

He has been handed over to local police for further legal action. The names of his associates have also been incorporated in the FIR for strict legal action.

Besides, BSF troops of Guwahati Frontier seized 40 cattle heads having an apprx value of Rs 1,04,780/- and 32 bottles of Phensidyl on the intervening night of 31Oct/01 Nov  2016.

BSF troops are always alert to the issue of trans-border crimes and illegal infiltration and are making all out efforts to prevent commission of illegal crimes despite being displaced from BOPs due to flood and other associated problems related to monsoons.
