Bordumsa- Tension in Arunachal – Assam border after a Custodial death

Tension prevails along Assam-Arunachal border at Bordumsa in Changlang district following a custodial death  of an Assamese youth Diganta Saikia in Diyun police station.

Various student’s organisations  from Assam staged protest by burning tyres along Assam-Arunachal border against alleged custodial death of Assamese youth in Arunachal Pradesh.

The incident irked the Assam students’ bodies who staged protest in front of the Assam -Arunachal check  gate on Saturday and shouted anti Arunachal Police slogans.

Assamese youth namely Diganta Saikia of Kujupather village of Bordumsa in Tinsukia district was picked up by Arunachal Police for his alleged involvement in a series of motor cycle theft incidents in Diyun. He was found dead inside the Diyun Police Station on Saturday morning. Arunachal Police, however, informed the youth’s family members that the youth had committed suicide inside the police station. The deceased surrendered himself before the Assam Police at Bordumsa and was later handed over to the Arunachal Police.

Meanwhile Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma visited the site and announced an ex-gratia of fifty thousand rupees to the victim’s family.

The agitators demanded a high level judicial probe into the custodial death of the local youth terming the act as ‘ruthless and barbaric’.
