The Dibang Valley district in Arunachal Pradesh has seen the highest improvement under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme  With an increase of 416 points,  followed by Lakshadweep, Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), Kadapa (Karnataka) and Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir), according to officials of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

In 2015-16, the sex ratio at birth  ( SRB ) of Dibang Valley was 761 points, and it rose to 1,176 points in 2016-17. In Lakshadweep, there was a 122-point increase, from 832 to 955 points, while Hamirpur recorded an increase of 94 points, from 849 to 943 points.

In Kadapa, there was a 74-point increase from 900 to 974 points, and Pulwama made a 69-point jump from 949 to 1018. The data, officials said, were computed till March 31, 2017.

Officials added that of the 161 districts with the worst SRB, where the flagship programme of the BJP-led government was implemented, a total of 104 districts showed an increase in the SRB. “In 119 districts, the first trimester registration showed improvements, while 12 districts remained stable.

Officials added that while the districts were chosen on the child sex ratio (CSR) numbers from the 2011 census, the progress was counted on the basis of the SRB. The national CSR as per the 2011 census was 918, which means 918 girls were born for every 1,000 boys.

The districts with the highest points of decline in SRB were Manipur’s Saiha (898 from 1,022), Nicobar Islands (839 from 948), Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian (959 from 1,062) and Bandipur (885 from 964), and Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad (908 from 977).
