Assamese literature would survive for ever- Y D Thongchi

Appreciating the richness of Assamese literature would survive for ever,  Sahitya Academy awardee-cum-APLS president  Y D Thongchi said in his address to 12th biannual session of Surabhi Sahitya Samaj (SSS) and Silpi Diwas, here recently.

Jabtak suraj chand rahega, Assamese sahitya jan manabko jagritiki or lete rahega (Assamese literature would continue to enrich human society till sun and moon shines, Thongchi said as chief guest to mark the foundation day (January 17) celebration of the literary body in Biswanth district of Gohpur sub-division of Assam.

Arunachal Pradesh (earlier NEFA) was part of Assam originally and the harmonious relations between peoples of two sisterly states cannot be  denied,  APLS working president Dr Tage Tada said and expressed his confidence that the ties would strengthen further.

Referring to  book – Assam Arunachalar samanoyat a bhumuki (A glimpse on Assam-Arunachal harmony, after releasing it, he said that the author Dr K K Dey, former consultant surgeon of Naharlagun General Hospital, who synchronized ties between both neighbouring states   himself is a symbol of harmony. That is why even after retirement he attached to RKM Hospital now has been serving the people of the state, he reasoned.

SSS president Sewati Bora, who chaired  the event, felicitated noted Assamese poet Lokeswari Rajkhowa (Handique), Amedkar awardee Sidheswar Hajarika, Guineas record creator for beating drum while cycling Dr Manjit Dihingiya and Dr Dey during the event.

Dr Dey reciprocating the gesture said that a doctor is taught to serve the suffering humanity which he has been doing since joining the profession.

Tentol Bari Literature Culture, Sports Bikash Samity president Bipul Rajbangshi, in his address, lauded participation of over 300 literature lovers and exhorted the guests to maintain their tempo to strengthen bilateral inter-state ties, Dr Dey told this daily.
