If the Centre brings the Citizenship Amendment Bill once again, then along with his counterparts in the northeastern states, will protest jointly, said  Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu  on Tuesday.   Khandu informed the assembly that earlier also he had urged the Centre to exempt the tribal state from the purview of the Bill.

Replying to a question by Congress MLA Ninong Ering on the steps taken to protect the interest of the indigenous people if the Bill is imposed, Khandu said the state would appeal to the Centre not to impose the bill as it would have a strong ramification.

If the GoAP will implement Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) being imposed by the GoI on all Indian states, Ninong Ering said and asked what step the GoAP would take as Chakma & Hajong is already a major problem for the state?

CM Khandu said that after the CAB was passed by Lok Sabha on 8.01.18, he along with Manipur CM had drawn then Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh attention to exempt Arunachal, Manipur and Meghalaya from the CAB.

“We the NE CMs will lead a delegation to the Centre on the issue,” he said, adding “We are totally against CAB” while responding to supplementary from Muchu Mithi: Will the CAB include ILP? “The ILP cannot be diluted as it will create a major problem,” the CM said.
