The Women Against Social Evils (WASE) recently conducted an awareness campaign on drug abuse and POCSO Act at Kiyit village under Mebo Sub-Division which was attended by youths, Gaon Burahs, students etc.
Speaking on the sideline of the awareness campaign, team WASE tried to make the village women and village folks of Kiyit village to know the various issues and side cum social effects concerning the growing drug abuse and also how the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The Kiyit village is one of the largest villages in Mebo Sub-Division was chosen for the awareness campaign as this village having large household population requires adequate knowledge about the growing menace of drugs due to which several youths are falling prey to the drug abuse due to ignorance and its associated punishments.
The WASE also made the village women know about the POCSO Act in which child are protected from sexual offences. Though child related sexual offences are less or non-existent in the traditional social system of the Adis where girls/women are given adequate spaces and regarded well most, the awareness on POCSO was disseminated among the villagers as a preventive move.
To this regard, resource person Dr. Runi Tasung spoke about the ill effects of drug addiction. Model, Miss Tiara India international 2017, Ms Chum Darang also attended the campaign and spoke on the programme, informed, WASE President, Smti Yamik Dulom Darang and Joya Tasung Moyong, WASE General Secretary. GBs and SHG women also spoke on the occasion.
