Arunachal: The 7th University Badminton League-2019 underway

The 7th University Badminton League-2019 in RGU organised by the Officers’ Club, RGU was inaugurated by Kurian Thomas, Joint Registrar of RGU as Chief Guest amidst a huge gathering of sports enthusiasts and badminton diehard fans on the evening of 19th November at the university’s main auditorium.

The chief guest while wishing the organisers for the successful conduct of the tournament lauded the club and its effort in promoting badminton observed that It has been a source of recreation, and is a medium to keep oneself fit and of sound health.

The Officers Club of RGU which is a member affiliate of Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) is organising men’s doubles event for both intra-club category and open category.

Speaking on the occasion the founding chairman of the club and Patron of the UBL-2019 Dr. David Pertin exhorted and urged the players to play the game with true sportsmanship spirit.

Earlier, Chairman of the Officers’ Club Dr. Gibji Nimasow presented a brief note on the championship, while organising committee member Yage Riram gave the welcome speech.

A total of 30 players are participating in the men’s doubles event comprising of faculty members, administrators, research scholars, post graduate and under graduate students from the age ranging between 20 to 56 years.

The finals of the match will be played on 22nd November, 2019. The winners, runners-up and 2nd runners-up will receive cash prizes, trophies and citations, besides bagging sponsorships by the club to participate in ASBA organised tournaments.

Later, the convenor of UBL-2019 Pitam Jomoh proposed the vote of thanks. In the intra-club doubles competition the pairs of Dr. David Pertin-Teli Momu and Dr. Gibji Nimasow-Pitam Jomoh have made it to the finals getting the better of the pairs of Hage Kojee-Pura Deilyang and Dr. K. Rojeet Singh-Terge Sora respectively in the semi-finals.

The league matches of the open category amongst the teams divided into 2 pools will be completed by the 21st November.

Among others RGU’s faculty members, officers, research scholars, students and staffs witnessed the programme.
