Arunachal: Sangken Concluded with re-installation of statues of Lord Buddha

Sangken- the water festival, considered as one of the most cheerful and significant festival in Theravada Buddhist culture concluded today with re-installation of statues of Lord Buddha at the main Buddha Vihara (temple) at exactly 3:13:47 PM.

This festival is celebrated annually for three days. Water-throwing or dousing one another, is the distinguishing feature of this festival and is done continuously for three days of the festival. The throwing of water has traditionally been a sign of respect and well-wishing, as revellers hope to wash away bad luck.

After ceremonial installation of statues of Lord Buddha at the main temples, the venerable ones offer prayer and sprinkled the blessed water for well beings of all people.

Sangken festival is a deep rooted cultural event that people of Namsai district have treasured and shall be passed down in generations. This kind of festival is not celebrated around the state or country but for the people of Namsai district it is an important one as it signifies a big part of their religious belief.
