Poet Madhu Raghavendra who was the guest speaker for the occasion read poetry from his recently released book of poems, Stick No Bills realised by Tage Taki, Minister of Arunachal Pradesh at the Ziro Literary Festival at St. Claret’s College on 27th September.

Madhu is a poet, art event curator, and social development practitioner. He is the founder of Poetry Couture, one of India’s largest poetry initiatives. His poetry movement has created free spaces for poetry in many cities of India, including the North East.

His debut book of poems, Make Me Some Love To Eat has been well-received nationwide, and is in its fourth edition.  This second book, Stick No Bills, was awarded the Best Poetry Manuscript Award by Lit O Fest, Mumbai, and has a few poignant poems on Arunachal.

Madhu also conducted a brief poetry workshop for the students giving the students tips on how to read, embrace and write poetry. The workshop also discussed how poetry is powerful. In the toughest times, when nothing else can console us we turn to poetry.

Poetry is not merely beautiful words stringed together in words. It is a peaceful medium that has been used since the birth of humankind for brotherhood, love, compassion, appreciation and to give a perspective to life.

He also emphasized on using poetry as a tool for documenting cultures and our time in history, which is one of the most essential things to do in the State. The workshop provided opportunity for the students to imaginatively write a short poem and present it.

The department faculty Doyir Ete, Miazi Hazam, Bompi Riba and Narayan collectively managed the event and brought the it to fruition. Their participation was vital as it inspired the students to not just be passive audience for the workshop but also active participants by showcasing their work on the podium.
