Near about 79.72 per cent of the voters out of 6987 exercised their franchise in Arunachal Pradesh where repolling was held at 17 polling stations under Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi on Saturday.
However, re-polling did not take place at Gimba polling station under Tali Assembly constituency as the polling team failed to reach there after miscreants cut down the hanging bridge .
“Re-polling was held in 17 polling stations . The turnout recorded is 79.72 per cent,” Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kanki Darang told reporters here this evening.
Mr Darang, however, said that the turnout will increase as reports from Kore Hapa and Jara polling stations under Tali Assembly constituency have not been received yet.
“At Gimba polling station re-polling did not take place as the polling team could not reach the polling station. They got stuck in the right Bank of the river after miscreants cut down the hanging bridge there and they could not cross the river,” the Additional CEO said, adding , the incident has been reported to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Mr Darang said that fresh polls will be held at Gimba polling station in coming days , and an FIR in connection with the incident will be lodged.
“The voting has been by and large peaceful. Some minor incidents were reported,” he added.
At Amsukpinja polling booth under Palin Assembly constituency fresh polls was held for only Assembly seat while in the 16 other polling stations for both Assembly constituency and parliamentary seat.
Earlier on April 20, re-polling was held in 18 polling booths spread across eight districts of the State on Saturday which recorded an estimated 81.3 per-cent turnout.
It may be mentioned that in 2014 elections, Arunachal Pradesh recorded around 77 per cent turnout.
The result of the polls will be announced on May 23.
