the Rehabilitation Centre at the premises of the Zonal Hospital TEZU shut down due to lack of funds, which prove that the tall promises by the authorities over control, prevention and rehabilitation of Opium and other substance addicts in Lohit district is far from the reality.

When confirmed over it sudden close, Dr S Chai Pul DMO informed that “Since the start of Rehabs we received only Rs 33.33 Lakhs fund and continued till May 31 2019. The Rehabs opened on July 2017 last without bothering the fund we continued. The prime intention  of the Centre is to enable the patient to confront dependence on opium, she added.

Under all odds we managed foods, medicines, staffs salaries and other miscellaneous requirements. When we approach for the funds, the authority simple consoles and ligers. The nodal officer Drugs – De-addiction Naharlagun never visited or supported in the endeavour, so finding no option the successfully run Rehabs was forced to close”, rues the DMO.

The only REHABS which has treated and rehabilitated 350 numbers of addicts has been the ray of hope for Anjaw, Lohit, Namsai, Dibang and Lower Dibang Valley district unfortunately the authority lackadaisical attitude left to die the REHABS.

Other Rehab run at Pasighat General Hospital in East Siang District on OPD mode and rest 8 (eight sanctioned districts failed to run.

The only 10 bedded REHABS at TEZU headquarter of Lohit district could managed somehow by dint of hard work paid by the joint effort of DMO and Dr S Towang SMO cum Programme Officers. The REHABS was also supported by the dedicated members from BRAHMAKUMARIS RAJYOGA & EDUCATION CENTRE TEZU by extending counselling, regular meditation and educating spiritual education selflessly.

Meanwhile, in recent World No Tobacco Day at Medo, when DMO recited the plight of the REHABS, Prince Dhawan, DC Lohit taken the matter seriously to reopen the Centre for the greatest cause of Opium affected districts of Arunachal.
