Arunachal: Public protest demanding a stop to Bombing practice and shifting of IAF bombing zone

The  people of Dollungmukh  under Kamle district today carried out massive protest against the Indian Air Force ( IAF )   Bombing Zone which is threatening to the life and property of the local people  living in the vicinity of the area due to bombing and practice being carried by the Air Force.

Hundreds of local people of the area today carried out peace march carrying banners, leaflets and shouting slogans against indiscriminately bombing by IAF in the area without carrying for the human settlement which is living in the area before the existence of the bombing zone.

Social activist Bini Ranjan while taking to media said  that ‘ the  Air Force is doing like war and our life is in horrible situation and feeling uncomfortable to survive’.  ‘There was many dwelling houses and cattle and pet animals which have been destroyed in course of time’ he said.

It is the long pending demand of the public of the Dollungmukh area for Shifting of the Indian Air Force Bombing Zone from here. IAF have signed a lease agreement in 1968 without informing the public of Dollungmukh and government of Arunachal Pradesh, was reviewed in 1975, informed Ranjan.

 In 1992 one of our local Bini Tabom have to sacrifice his life without any compensation to late family members, several cattle and pet animals have been destroyed due to drill practice and bombing exercise carried out by the IAF  fighter plane which takes off from Tezpur base in Assam.

On 8 June 2018, another local from Ruyu village Bini Todum, who is serving in Sashashtra Seema Bal suffered multiple injury and fracture after being hit by the sharp nel. The said victim was first admitted at National Hydroelectric  Power Corporation (NHPC) dispensary, Gerkhamukh later referred to Tamo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Science (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun.

The IAF practice and drill ground is doing its practice in between 11 villages and is threatening the very existence of the local indigenous population of the area which is around more than ten thousand.

This is a beginning and if the state government and central government do no stopped or process for shifting of the dangerous bombing zone from the residential area we shall resort to any democratic mean in future, said Bini Ranjan.

When asked about the court of enquiry constituted by IAF based in Shilling,  Ranjan said that we are not satisfied with this only, we wants  shifting of the practice zone from the residential area.

Dollungmukh Area Welfare Forum (DAWF) Chairman Er. Rotom Tebin while said that the matter of shifting can only be resolved after decision taken by the central government but state government can process the cases for consideration of the genuine demand.

 We have submitted memorandum to Chief Minister Pema Khandu with a copy to the Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on the occasion of the inauguration of newly created Kamle district on December 15 2017, informed Tebin.

Another memorandum was again submitted to Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on occasion of Boori Boot festival at Dollungmukh itself, he informed.

We did not stop here but submitted another memorandum to Union Minister of Defence Nirmala Sitaraman recently at Itanagar to stop the bombing and routine exercise but no result have been received so far and due to which we have to come to street and protest for our safety and security, he said

All Kamle district students union (AKDSU) Vice President Bini Noga while said that we have high expectation from our leader Kiren Rijiji who is there at centre in the Home Ministry, he should have known the pain being taken up by the local indigenous people of his constituency, our younger generation and youths are becoming handicapped due to sound and air pollution, what would be the future of our youths and our next generation if such situation come again and again.

He said we also want to live and survive as a normal life on this earth but not in this way, the IAF bombing zone must shift from here  for the betterment and safety of the local citizens of the Dollungmukh area as well as people living on either side of the border from Assam.

The protesters also staged dharna at the local office of the IAF near the bombing zone.

The protesters belongs to the local villagers, which include former PRI members, members from All Dollungmukh Area Students Union (ADASU), Dollungmukh Area Welfare Forum (DAWF), Dollungmukh Area Youth Association (DAYA) among others who were present during the peach march and dharna.
