The Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission, which is presently defunct will be revived soon, assured the Minister for Women & Child Development & Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Nabam Rebia

He was addressing the 39th Foundation Day celebrations of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS)  at the Dree Ground, Papu Nallah here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Nabam Rebia further said that APWWS has come a long way since its inception when it had only a few prominent women as its members. The state government is dedicated towards ensuring all possible support to the APWWS,” the Minister said.

While lauding the APWWS for its various welfare efforts concerning state’s women and children, Capital Complex deputy commissioner, Prince Dhawan said that the APWWS members have extended their support to the district administration on numerous occasions which has helped it ensure better facilities for the womenfolk.

The DC also disclosed that the state government has sanctioned a fund of Rs. 100 lakhs for installing proper light posts at various places based on the APWWS’s requests for the safety of women at Capital Complex. “We hope to start the said project from January next year,” he added.

APWWS  chief advisor, Jarjum Ete appealed to Minister Nabam Rebia to take up the matter of reservation for women in PRI election with the state government soon.

Ete appealed to the Minister to also extend support to the womenfolk through the department of Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs in the form of regular training and workshops.

APWWS Central Executive Committee (CEC) general secretary, Kani Nada Maling and spokesperson, Gumri Ringu also spoke on the occasion.

During the two-day celebrations, information regarding marriage registration and free legal services were also imparted to around 255 delegates from various districts who attended the event. About 400 people had also registered for marriage registration at the free legal services stall there.
