Arunachal Pradesh conferred the ‘Most Improved Small State’ award

Arunachal Pradesh was today conferred the ‘Most Improved Small State’ award in terms of Infrastructure, Law and Order and Education by country’s leading media organisation India Today here in its 18th edition of the ‘State of the States Conclave’.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu received the award from Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar.

Earlier speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister said being a hilly state, Arunachal has its own unique challenges and opportunities. He said for the state to develop, connectivity is being given highest priority.

He said under PMGSY, good quality road connectivity is reaching interior villages. Under Trans Arunachal highway stretching over 1800kms, 80% of road connectivity works have been completed.

Chief Minister said under PM Narendra Modi, rail and air connectivity to interior pockets in Arunachal are become reality. He said state capital Itanagar is already connected with railways and survey works are going on for rail connectivity in all foothills area and even in high altitude areas like Tawang. He said rail connectivity to Tawang will become a pride for the country.

Highlighting on the importance of religious and cultural significance of Arunachal, Chief Minister said the state is birthplace of 6th Dalai Lama. It is also known popularly for cultural places like Malinithan, Bhismaknagar and Parashuram Kund. Also the state is home to 26 major tribes and 100 more sub-tribes.

Chief Minister said development may not have fully reached Arunachal, but patriotism has already reached this remote corner. People often greet each other with the slogan ‘Jai Hind’ and it reverberates more than anywhere else in the country, said the CM.

Chief Minister also said Arunachal is focusing fully on improving revenue generation. He said the state has increased its revenue from Rs 900 Cr in 2015-16 to Rs 2100 Cr in 2018-19. CM said the objective is to increasingly become independent of centre’s funding for development of the state. He said every state should be able to stand on their own feet without too much depending on the centre, and then only we can realize the goal of New India.

Chief Minister thanked the India Today group for bringing the concept of the ‘States of the States’ survey that has raised the sense of competitiveness among all states. He said such survey has benefitted the entire nation bringing in marked improvement in different sectors of development.

Also present on the occasion were Health Minister Alo Libang, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, MLA Tsering Tashi and various other dignitaries.
