Arunachal polls: 198 nominations found valid, 13 rejected for assembly poll 

Arunachal Polls- 198 candidate nomination found valid while 13 rejected for assembly poll while 12 for 2 Lok sabha seats found valid.

Itanagar: After scrutiny of nominations on Tuesday, altogether, 198 candidates were found eligible for contesting the April 11 Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh.

“After scrutiny of the papers, 198 candidates are in fray for the Assembly elections. There has been rejection of 13 candidates throughout the state,” Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kanki Darang told waiting journalists at Nirvachan Bhavan here this evening.

Post scrutiny, the party-wise break-up of candidates remaining in fray is like this: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-60, Indian National Congress (INC)-49, National People’s Party (NPP)-30, Janata Dal (United)-16, Janata Dal (Secular)-11 and People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA)-8 and rest independent.

In all, 14 women candidates are also in the fray for the polls, Darang disclosed.

In regards to the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh, applications of all 12 candidates were found valid, the Addl CEO informed.

“In 1 Arunachal West constituency, all the seven candidates were found eligible, not a single candidature has been rejected. They are Kiren Rijiju of BJP, Nabam Tuki (INC), Khyoda Apik (NPP), Subu Kechi (PPA), Jomin Nyokir Kara (All India Forward Bloc), Jarjum Ete of JD(S) and Rumak Jomoh (Independent).

Likewise, in 2 Arunachal East Parliamentary Constituency, all the five candidates are in fray. They are – Tapir Gao (BJP), James Lowangcha Wanglat (INC), Bandey Mili of JD(S), Mongol Yomso (PPA) and CC Singpho (Independent).

BJP’s Kento Jini returns unopposed

The Addl CEO, meanwhile, informed that Kento Jini of BJP has “returned unopposed” from the 31 Aalo East seat as the nomination paper of the other candidate, Minkir Lollen of Congress, was rejected by RO.

Regarding the reports of unopposed return of BJP’s Taba Tedir from Yachuli constituency that went viral in social media, Darang while quoting the DEO cum Returning Officer of Lower Subansiri told that there has been adjournment of hearing of objections which will be completed tomorrow by 11 am. Tedir was pitted against Toko Yaram of JD(U).

“So, no candidate has returned unopposed from the Yachuli seat,” he said.

Explaining about the terms “unopposed returns”, the Addl CEO told that “if in any constituency, there is only one contesting candidate, that candidate should be declared to have been duly elected immediately after the last hour for withdrawal of candidature. In that event, a poll is not necessary.”

The date for withdrawal of candidature is March 28 at 3 PM.

Regarding notice of withdrawal, he said any candidate may withdraw his candidature by giving a notice in Form 5 signed by him & delivered before 3 O’clock in the afternoon of the last date fixed for such withdrawal.

Darang also informed that as many as 10 Assembly constituencies are set to witness straight fight in the polls. The constituencies are: Mukto (Pema Khandu of BJP and Thupten Kunphen of INC), Lumla (BJP’s Jambey Tashi Vs Jampa Thrinly Kunkhap of NPP), Thrizino (Kumsi Sidisow, BJP, Vs Kalu Dususow, INC), Bameng (Goruk Pordung, BJP Vs Kumar Waii, NPP), Seppa East (Ealing Tallang, BJP Vs Tapuk Taku, NPP), Pakke-Kessang (Biyuram Wahge, BJP Vs Atum Welly, INC), Pangin (Ojing Tasing, BJP Vs Tapang Taloh, INC), Hayuliang (Dasanglu Pul, BJP Vs Lapulam Kri, INC) and Chowkham (Chowna Mein, BJP Vs Khunang Kri, INC). Changlang North Tesam Pongte of BJP Vs Tinghap Taiju of INC. Maximum candidate have been reported from 48 Lekang where 8 candidates are in fray. Darang said.

Rs 2.34 crore seized

The Addl CEO also informed that the unaccounted cash so far seized across the State by the static surveillance teams, flying squads and the police ever since the election model code of conduct came into force, rose to Rs 2,34,53,550.
