Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix on Wednesday informed the House that a suspected person has been taken into police custody in connection with the murder case of student leader Ojing Taying.

Replying to a supplementary query raised by Congress member Ninong Ering during ‘question hour’, the Home Minister said, “The Police Department has zeroed down on a suspected accused in the Ojing Taying murder case who is now in police custody.

The police investigation is at advanced stage. We are hopeful of making a breakthrough in this case and very soon, will come to the conclusion,” Felix said without divulging further details.

The former finance secretary of All East Siang District Students’ Union (AESDSU) Taying was attacked by unidentified miscreants at Itanagar on June 10, 2017. He had succumbed to his injuries four days later at a Guwahati hospital.

After the state government-constituted SIT failed to make any headway into the mysterious case, the government had referred it to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) but it was turned down the premier probe agency, citing that the case “does not have interstate ramifications”.

The government had also announced Rs one lakh reward for the informer whoever gives information leading to arrest of the accused.
