Arunachal: NESBFC  wins 2nd NE Regional Blind Football Tournament

The North East Shower Blind Football Club (NESBFC), a combined North East team has recently brought home the trophy of the Second North East Regional Blind Football Tournament which was held from January 27 to 30 at Mont Ford school grounds, Tura in Meghalaya.

The 10 member NESBFC team comprising of players from Arunachal and Meghalaya defeated Delhi Daredevils by a single goal in the final match being played on January 30 last through a penalty shot by NESBFC’s Captain Nido Dominic.  The decision was made through penalty shootout as both the teams were unable to score within designated time of 40 minute for Blind players unlike the normal time remain for general category is 90 minute.

Gabriel Nongrum has been awarded the Best Player of the tournament for scoring 10 goals in five matches. Considered India’s fastest blind football player, Gabriel is a graduate from St. Edmunds College, Shillong and is also a student of Society Rehabilitation of Visually Challenged (SRVC), Kochi.

Besides, Dominic members of the team include; Talar Podo, Tagum Litin, Bengia Abraham, Tara Bagang, Gabriel Nongrum, Kilisgson De Marak, Goalkeeper Donbor Nangram and Goal Guide Nido  Rito , and coach Benice De Marak.  Four players from the state are students of Donyi Polo School of Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu.

A total of ten teams participated in the Blind Football Tournament comprising of Bethany Society Shillong, IBFF Academy, Kochi, Mont Fort, Guwahati, Mont Fort, Tura, FABB, Kolkata, Delhi Daredevils, NESBFC (combined North East team) Newbies United (Manipur, Nagaland, Bangalore). Of the ten teams five were from the North East while, three were invited teams; Kolkata, Delhi, Kochi, Kerala.

Dominic, who is the son of Nido Torh has completed his BCA from Bangalore. Have interest in playing since his childhood said that there is lack of sponsorship and we have been trying to meet state Chief Minister and other for sponsorship but in vain, we have faced lots of inconvenient due to lack of sponsor for such games. He hope that if some cone come forward to support us we may show our skill in future and bring laurel for state and region.

The 1st Tournament was held in Shillong last year which was also participated the team member of Dominic Nido
