Arunachal: Lowang inaugurates State Level Workshop on Solid & Liquid Waste management

Wangki Lowang, Minister PHE & WS Department inaugurated the two day long State Level Workshop on Solid & Liquid Waste management at Nago Putu, Ziro on Thursday in presence of Likha Saaya, MLA Yachuli Constituency &  Tage Taki, Minister and host of district officials, delegates from different part of the States and neighbouring State of Sikkim & Assam, NGOs and resources persons draw from various part of the country.

The workshop aimed at further firming up Open Defecation Free (ODF) Sustainability in the state and to draw up road maps for Solid & Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) and address the challenges of plastic waste menace in the State.

Wangki Lowang, Minister PHE & WS stress on the importance of safe sanitary practices and the importance of environmental cleanliness by way of shedding individualistic nature prevailing in the society. He further advocated finding suitable alternates to plastic which has become a nuisance posing environmental pollution. He further assured all support under the leadership of Pema Khandu, Chief Minister, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh in addressing issue of Solid & Liquid Waste.

While addressing the workshop Likha Saaya, MLA Yachuli advocated organic life style and pledged to make his constituency the cleanest in the State which would be go a long way in making the State the cleanest in the Country if taken up in the same spirit by the rest of the MLA’s of other constituencies.

Similarly Tage Taki, MLA Ziro in his futuristic vision for a viable water supply project for the valley insisted on preservation of the pristine environment for ensuring natural resources for the future generation, he also spoke on adoption of hydraulic tractor with multiple trailers to address the problem of Solid Waste. They further complimented various policies and achievement made under the young and dynamic leadership of  Pema Khandu, Chief Minister, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.

Anil Raj Rai, Special Secretary-cum-Mission Director of SBM (G) Sikkim presented success story of the state of Sikkim in the field of Sanitation. Ms. Priya Shrestha & Roshan Rai from World Wide Fund (WWF) & Zero Waste Himalaya respectively mesmerised the participants with their presentation on Zero Waste Management & Plastic Free Himalaya under the title of  ‘’Sustainable Approach to Waste Management in Himalayan State.’’ Bhaskarjyoti Talukdar, Nodal Officer, SBM (G), Assam presented on success stories of Solid & Liquid Waste Management in the state of Assam.

Earlier Marnya Ete, IAS Commissioner, PHE & WS, in his opening remarks welcomed all the dignitaries and participants to the workshop. Further, amongst others the workshop was participated by S. Yomcha, Mission Director (SBM-G), PHE & WS Department, Tomo Basar, Chief Engineer (E/Z), PHE & WS Department & Toko Jyoti, Chief Engineer (W/Z), PHE & WS Department and Tayum Tok, Superintending Engineer, PHE & WS Circle, Naharlagun.

The second day of workshop on 2nd November’ 2018 will witness brainstorming group discussion on the theme “Alternate to Plastic and its viability in context of hill regions particularly Arunachal Pradesh” and followed by field visit on Solid & Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) projects.
