Arunachal: Khandu takes decision for resuming coal mining in Namchik-Namphuk coalfield

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu in a review meeting of Geology and Mining department took a important decision for resuming coal mining in Namchik-Namphuk coalfield which was ended following a Supreme Court judgement.

Chief Minister gave go ahead for settling the matter by deciding to pay additional levy of Rs 32 Crore imposed by Ministry of Coal. This important decision will revive the Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development & Trading Corporation Ltd, a govt of Arunachal undertaking responsible for mining in Namchik-Namphuk area.

The objective of this review meeting was to strengthen the department and address the manpower shortage to boost revenue generation.

The meeting acknowledged that due to effort of state govt, the state was able to get forest clearance for Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) for 13 oil wells, which was pending for last 14 years. The officials informed that state govt will be able to earn revenue of Rs 15 crore out of all 14 oil wells, which will be run by Oil India.

The meeting also discussed on strengthening of staff position in the department, ways to curb illegal mining and empower the department to increase revenue generation.
