Arunachal: Khandu expresses shock and pain over death of 2 girl students due to landslide

He announced immediate release of ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakhs each to next of kins of the deceased and prayed for early recovery of those recuperating in the hospitals.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed deep shock and pain over the nature’s wrath claiming two precious lives of young students at Namstering village under Dudunghar circle in Lumla area of Tawang district in the wee hours of 11th July 2019. Incessant rain for last couple of days that triggered landslides and flood have left trails of large scale devastation in the entire state.

The deceased school children identified as Class 5 student Rinchin Lhamu (10), and Class 6 student Genden Wangmu with other boarders were fast asleep in their hostel at the Government Residential School at Namstering when the incessant rain triggered landslides hit the hostel at 3.30 AM. Beside casualties, three more students have been reportedly injured and are being treated at Lumla and Tawang hospitals.

Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members that fell prey to the nature’s fury, Khandu said that the State and its people are with the victims during this trying times. He announced immediate release of ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakhs each to next of kins of the deceased and prayed for early recovery of those recuperating in the hospitals.

Assuring all possible support from State Government, Khandu directed the district administration and the disaster management department to continuously monitor the situation. He directed the Chief Secretary to personally monitor the situation and shift the people from vulnerable areas to safer places.

Khandu has issued directives to all the DCs to keep strict vigil and alert during the monsoon to avoid human casualties and damages. He also gave strict instructions to ensure preparedness to tackle the catastrophe.
