The labour class of the state government, both skilled and unskilled, who form the major working force at the last level of governance, but for whom the well-oiled government machinery would have come to still, are serving the people without much hullabaloo despite hardships faced by them to make ends meet.

True to his promise of offering New Year gifts to state government employees,

Chief Minister Pema Khandu during the second leg of Arunachal Rising Campaign at Ziro today announced enhancement of wages for the labour class of the state government expected to bring cheers into their day-to-day lives, which had become monotonous along the years.

As per a latest government order, the initial wages on a appointment of the Un-skilled Contingent employees/casual workers/daily labourers has been enhanced from Rs. 8,000/-pm to Rs.10,000/-pm and from Rs 9,000/-pm to Rs 11,000/-pm for Skilled Contingent employees/casual workers/daily labourers. This in fact is a jump of 25% in case of Un-skilled Contingent employees and 22.22% in case of Skilled Contingent employees.

Further, un-skilled contingent employees after completing 15 years and above in service were getting fixed wages of Rs. 11,000/- pm till retirement. Khandu’s new Year gift will now enable them to be paid Rs 13000 from 15-20 year and Rs. 16,000/- as monthly wages after completing 20 years of service. Thereby, taking home additional amount of Rs. 5,000/- pm.

On the other hand, the skilled contingent employees after completing 15 years and above in service were getting fixed wages of Rs. 11,500/- pm till retirement. Now they will be paid Rs. 14,000/- as monthly wages during 15-20 year and after completing 20 years of service they will get Rs. 17000 empowering them to take home additional amount of Rs. 6000/- pm.

It may be noted that the state government has around 35000 skilled and un-skilled contingent employees working in various sectors across the state including the Auxiliary Labour Corps (ALCs). At least 5000 of these contingent employees have completed 20 years in service.

It may be noted that, concerned over the apathy of those contingency workers serving beyond 20 years and being remunerated with meager wages, Chief Minister created a new slab of above 20 years and enhanced wages to Rs 5000 and Rs 6000 respectively for skilled and un-skilled contingency workers .

The Chief Minister has affirmed to bear the additional financial implications which is coming at around 100 crores additional financial implication on the state exchequer. He again pointed that the state government is not afraid to walk the extra mile in making life easier for its employees and the working class is one of the most important sections of the government.

“Due to team-work we have been able to achieve unprecedented growth in our revenue generation. Now its time for the government to give back to the team members and our working class is one of the strongest member of Team Arunachal,” he said.

  1. At last, good news indeed. But one more word I would like to include here,it’s better if clarical staffs (casual/contingency/ALCs etc should be enhanced differently from others labourers because they are engaged or working more than regular staffs.

  2. Its good to hear the wages contingency employees have been lowly hiked but he never uttered a single word for their job regularization in the future. Alas once gain people are fooled again just because election is coming near.
