Arunachal: Gun battle between security forces and rebels, 1 Injured, 4 arrested, Huge arms recovered

Four persons, including an NSCN (R) cadre and three alleged over ground workers (OGWs) of the banned outfit, were arrested following a gun battle between the security forces and a group of rebels in a jungle area under Deomali sub-division of Tirap district on Friday last. While one civilian who received injuries during the gun battle also detained.

Tirap district Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Meena informed that the Indian Army’s 21 Para (Special Force), on being tipped off about the presence of militant hideout, launched a search operation in jungle area of nearby Thalot village under Soha Police Station of Deomali sub-division on Friday morning. While carrying out the search operation, the security forces came under fire and during the exchange of fire, two allege accused, including the NSCN (R) cadre, were injured. However, the injured cadre managed to flee from the scene.

The NSCN (R) cadre, identified as SS Corporal Roni Kungkho, was apprehended by the Special Forces from Namtong. One pistol and 3 live rounds were recovered from him.

The injured civilian, has been identified as Wangchang  Sawin, 35, resident of Thalot. After medical treatment, he was detained for interrogation and enquiry to ascertain his role.

On registration of FIR (No. 1/19) u/s 307/120(b)/121/34 IPC, Sec 27 Arms Act r/w Sec 10/13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Soha Police Station, an investigation has been launched, the SP said.

He also informed that the security forces apprehended three other alleged accused and handed them over to the police. They have been identified as Tinyong Kungkho( 46), Pansom Kitnya(21 ) (both residents of Ngoitong in Changlang district), and Wintup Sawin(28) of Thalot village.

Other recoveries included one AK-47 rifle, 95 live rounds, 2 SBBL guns (country made) and some incriminating documents, Meena added.
