Arunachal:  Governor meets Defence Minister

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) met the Defence Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman at New Delhi on 2nd August 2018. They discussed about recruitment of more youth from the State in the Armed Forces.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the Defence minister for her initiating necessary steps to maintain peace and tranquillity in the Frontier State of Arunachal Pradesh and also addressing the basic needs of the local communities living in the border areas through Army units located in the frontiers. He also conveyed the goodwill of the people of the State for the new Arunachal Scout Battalion.

The Governor, who has been spear heading an initiative with the serving Armed Forces Officers of Arunachal Pradesh, called, ‘Pay Back to Society Group’ (PBSG), informed the minister that under the PBSG initiative, the officers will be coming to their Home State Arunachal Pradesh and visit various schools and colleges to motivate the youth to join the Indian Armed Forces. He opined that this step will definitely motivate many more youth of the State to be in the Armed Forces and defending the nation.

The Governor, who has toured all the districts and visited last administrative circle on the international boundaries, shared his observations with the Defence Minister. He suggested for concerted effort in addressing the issues under Borer Area Development programmes.

The Governor requested the Defence Minister, who is doing a research on Idu Mishmi Tribe, for her visit and addressing the Idu Mishmi people about the social challenges of the community, including, marriage, taboos, culture practices and suicide cases. He shared his concern and discussed about a holistic approach to the problems. The Governor, after studying the problems during his District Tour to Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley Districts, had deputed a team of medical officers and psychiatrists to study the issues of the community.

The Defence minister assured the Governor that she would visit Arunachal Pradesh whenever invited. She conveyed her good wishes to the people of Arunachal Pradesh through the Governor. She said that as she has a close affiliation with Mishmi Tribe, Arunachal Pradesh is always close to her heart.
