Arunachal Film Festival to be held from February 17 to 20, will promote the diversity in cinema in the northeast. Organized by the information and public relation department in association with Film Federation of Arunachal (FFA). The four-day event, coinciding with the Statehood Day celebrations on February 20, was formally announced by chief minister Nabam Tuki on Monday during a press conference held at the Press Information Centre at the new civil secretariat here.
There is no dearth of talents in the state, the CM said and added that the government was contemplating to provide assistance to the budding filmmakers here and policy guidelines would be framed in this regard soon.
“Though Arunachal is a new entrant in the field of film making, with the setting up of Film and Television Institute (third in the country) at Jote near here, the youths of the state could compete with their contemporaries in other parts of the country. The festival is part of a project of the institute to expose the talents of the state,” Tuki said. Bollywood director Vishal Bharadwaj, actors Saheed Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangkana Ranawat who would visit the state in February to shoot their film ‘Rangoon’.
The caste would attend the festival’s award ceremony on February 20. Information and public relations parliamentary secretary Bamang Felix said the festival was aimed at showcasing the state’s rich tribal culture and tradition and hospitality. With 67 films to be screened, in all, in both competitive and non-competitive categories, including children’s category, the festival would provide a platform for filmmakers to interact, engage, showcase and nurture talents in making cinema.
