Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein to contest from 46-Chongkham AC after representing 48-Lekang for 5 (five) consecutive terms since 1995. He declared his desire to represent Chongkham AC at a public meeting held Friday at the Golden Pagoda Hall.

Mein wrote in his time line ” I am very much delighted to see the overwhelming support and the faith & confidence expressed upon me by the people of 46th Chowkham (ST) Assembly Constituency in a public meeting at Tengapani today. It would be my pleasure to work for and serve the people of this Constituency in the best of my abilities though my priority would be to work for over all development of Namsai district in particular and Arunachal Pradesh as a whole. Thank you people of Chongkham for your warm welcome and support” .

Mein had first contested the 1990 assembly elections against Late Omem Moyong Deori unsuccessfully though in 1995 he won against her on a Janata Dal ticket and thus started his journey.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s declaration also marks the retirement of his elder brother Chow Tewa Mein from active electoral politics. CT Mein is a veteran in  Arunachal’s politics, having started his career from the grassroots then moving to the provisional assembly, a full five year stint as a cabinet minister and ending his prolific career having been elected as MLA of the constituency for the last three consecutive terms.

Meanwhile, Chowna Mein also thanked to the people of Lekang for their love and support in my 30 years of active politics, as mentioned in his timeline .

Earlier in the morning he held a meeting with his supporters from Lekang AC and informed about his decision to leave the constituency after being their representative for the last twenty five years. Many of his supporters were shocked at the announcement and most of them were in tears.
