Arunachal: Chowna Mein, Tapir Gao joins Christmas Celebrations

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein joined the Christian Catholic community of Itanagar Capital Complex to celebrate the joyous occasion of Christmas with great enthusiasm and religious fervour at Sacred Heart Church, Naharlagun here on Monday. He was accompanied by State BJP President Tapir Gao, newly elected MLA of Pakke Kessang Biyuram Waghe, former minister Nyato Rigia, State BJP Secretary Nich Doni and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, the DCM said that government has a secular outlook and therefore is committed for the welfare of every religion for which roadmap is prepared and several welfare schemes are being undertaken for the upliftment of every religions in the state.

He urged people to get inspired by the life of Jesus, who worked for world peace, compassion and love. “No religion teaches hatred and violence. Indeed, every religion stands for promoting peace, harmony and love for humanity,’ the DCM said.

He advocated for fostering the feeling of brotherhood among all communities irrespective of colour, creed, language and religion. He called upon every religious leader to play their active roles in highlighting the core religious values and to promote those values that bind the society into bonds of humanity.

While lauding the efforts of the Christian community in the development of the state particularly in the field of education, he termed them as service oriented and called upon them to continue making their valuable contribution for the prosperity of the state in health, agriculture and horticulture sectors besides education.

The government is aware of the contributions made by the Christian community for the upliftment of the society and therefore their aspirations would be fulfilled soon, assured DCM.

While, recalling his long cherished association with Don Bosco School, he expressed his gratitude to Don Bosco fraternity for grooming and polishing him, to be the person, he is today.

He also urged the people to actively participate in the movement of building “New Arunachal”.

State BJP President Tapir Gao said Christmas is an opportunity to share God’s peace and joy. It is about tolerance, forgiveness and love.

Among others, MLA Pakke Kessang Biyuram Waghe, Vicar general of Itanagar Diocese Rev Fr. Jacob Mattathilany, Parish Council Secretary Tadar Dominic also spoke on the occasion. Chairperson Christmas Organising Committee Higio Yama and General Secretary Christmas Organising Committee Nangbia Bath gave the welcome address and proposed the vote of thanks.

DCM ChownaMein concluded the celebrations by cutting the Christmas cake with State BJP President Tapir Gao, Vicar general of Itanagar Diocese Rev Fr. Jacob Mattathilany and other dignitaries.

Earlier, mass prayer was conducted in the morning to impart cordial blessings to everyone.

During the day, the cultural performance by various groups mesmerised the huge gathering and the dignitaries present.

Later, DCM accompanied by all dignitaries inspected the under construction site of new Sacred Heart Church.
