Arunachal: Chowna Mein kicks off the first Namsai Champions Trophy

Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein kicked off the first Namsai Champions Trophy at APIL (Arunachal Pradesh Plywood Industries Ltd), General Ground here today.

The tournament is organised by the Namsai District Football Association (NDFA)in which altogether 32 teams are participating from Namsai, Changlang & Lohit Districts.

In his inaugural speech, Mein urged the players to play with the spirits of sportsmanship and discipline.

He said, “we have no dearth of talents but what we require is a little more determination, hardwork and discipline” and added that today we feel proud of our youths as many of them bringing laurels in the national and international arena.

He further stated that earlier, Namsai used to be a forerunner in games & sports activities and the area has produced first regional football player from the State in the like of Late Indrajit Namchoom. He also mentioned of one Shri Moklan Namchoom, who hails from Lathao and currently acting as a coach in a foreign football club in London.

He underscored the needs to encourage games & sports activities amongst the youths in the district as it is affected with rampant drug addictions and said to be very unfortunate that youths are falling prey to such unwanted things. He urged the district administration to support and extend their help in such games & sports activities.

Mein lauded former Namsai MLAs for earmarking such a huge land of about 7 acres for football stadium in the township and also appreciated the present MLA Zingnu Namchoom in his efforts to bring the football stadium in to reality with funding from the Centre for which an amount of 50 Crore has been sought by him this year (which is yet to be received).

Replying to a memorandum submitted by the Namsai District Football Association (NDFA), Mein said to look into their demand of office building.

President NDFA, Chow Mahajini Chowpoo in his speech informed that the Namsai district will host the State Level Tadar Tang Memorial Football Tournament in coming winter this year.  Urging the player to play sincerely with utmost discipline, he said that the players for the district team would be selected from their performance in this tournament.

MLA, Chau Zingnu Namchoom, DC Tapasya Raghav and SP S Singpho were also present among others.
