Arunachal: Army Vehicle falls into Kundil river, 3 Jawan die, 1 Injured

In a tragic accident  three Army Jawans lost their lives, and one was left critically injured when a Army vehicle of Madras Regiment that tumbled down the road and fell into Kundil river in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district, on Sunday. They were en route for a CI operation along the border area.

  • Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Mitalai Namchoom said that rescue operation is on and meanwhile two dead body have been recovered which search operation is on to locate the third missing army personnel.

 

  • According to Army sources, the team was on the Chapakhoa-Roing-Dibang route when the vehicle’s rear left wheel went off balance and into a landslide near the Iduli village area.

 

  • SP Sanjay Kumar Sain when contacted said that search operation continues for the missing personnel even in night as Special forces of the army have also arrived this evening . ​

 

  • “The incident took place around 3 AM. The army unit comprising 18 personnel were en route for a counter insurgency operation near the Assam-Arunachal border when their vehicle skidded off a bridge at Kabung village. Rescue operations are on,” said Lower Dibang SP Sanjay Kumar Sain.

Deadbodies of two jawans out of the three have been found but search for third is still on. The  injured Jawan  have been admitted to the Chapakhowa First Referral Unit (FRU).

The incident took place when an 18 member unit of the Territorial Army of the Madras regiment was patrolling the Iduli village area when around 2:30 am, the road suddenly caved in and the vehicle fell into the river.
