Arunachal: 6th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championships-2018 concludes

A week long 6th edition of Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championships-2018 concluded at Kalikho Pul Memorial Indoor Badminton Stadium here today.

While attending the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest Omar Rashid, Secretary (Event) Badminton Association of India (BAI)  appreciated Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) and Lohit District Badminton Association (LDBA) for successfully  hosting the state coveted  Badminton event away from the Capital for the first time.

Omar said “BADMINTON” is only ultimate game where everyone can play till they are alive to keep their physical fitness. Badminton is also one of most popular game in the country next to Cricket and our Indian ace shuttlers have been dominating in the world stage. He said, Arunachal has high potential for developing world class players provided Field of Play is available. He appreciated Arunachal government headed by Pema khandu, Chief Minister and Dr Mohesh Chai, Minister Sports & Youth Affairs for taking personal initiatives for overall development of sports.

Earlier, on behalf of the people of Lohit District and Lohit District Badminton Association in particular, Dr. Mohesh Chai, the local MLA who is also the Minister Sports & youth Affairs welcomed the BAI Secretary (Event) Omar Rashid, BAI Vice President and President  ASBA  Er. Ratu Techi and said that their presence will greatly motivate the budding youths in the field of sports and game and badminton in particular.

He also extended his gratitude to ASBA for giving opportunity to host the state’s coveted badminton event to Lohit District Badminton Association. “As a goodwill gesture, we had arranged bus service for the participating players and officials for sight seeing trip to Holy Parshuram Kund for 3 consecutive days and also made an all out effort from our side to make sure that all the participating players and officials are for all properly looked after including the lodging and fooding”, he said.

The Minister also reiterated to promote “SPORTS FOR ALL” across the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu in all respect aiming to produce best of the best player enabling them to compete in national and international events. He also extorted that in today’s world, sports has emerged as a multi-billion-dollar global industry.

Citing new avenues like Indian supper League, Premier Badminton league,  IPL, Pro Kabaddi League etc. have proved to be gargantuan revenue generators of the governing bodies like BCCI as well players with billions of money  involved in broadcasting rights, merchandising, salaries, sponsorships and contracts paving way for  self employment opportunities for the youth. Dr Chai disclosed that ASBA is one best performing State Level Registered sports Association and Govt will extend all kind of  support to such performing Sports Associations.

President ASBA Ratu Techi congratulated Lohit District headed by local MLA for hosting the tournament in a grand way and appeal other District to host similar way in days to come paving the hidden youth to explore their talent.   He also appreciated all Head of the Departments including District Administration, Police and people in general for extending all supports & cooperation in conducting the tournament successfully.

While announcing the “Arunachal Premier Badminton League (APBL) which will kick off next year, Ratu said, days are not far where Arunachalee will land in world stage due to the reason that game of Badminton has already inspired the youth till the village level throughout the state.

   The tournament has witnessed overwhelm response from public in general and lovers of Badminton enjoyed the multiple actions of various top seeding players of state.

ASBA’s nominated tournament Observer Chiliko Meto extended his gratitude to the organizers, Technical officials for all cooperation throughout the tournament.

In the final men’s Single in open event, the state top seeding  No -1  Laa Talar once again retained his position by defeating his close rival Akshay Raito 21-13 and 21-12 in straight. This is the six consecutive time Talar occupying the state ranking  Number 1 (one) position in Men’s open event by winning Gold medal.

In Women’s Single open event, Pinky Karki India’s women’s double rank No 23 pairing with Taring yania retained her position defeating Laa Yajum by 17-21 21-11 21-18 . it was one of most exciting matches that jumped –packed audience enjoyed. Yajum was dominating in the first matches but Pinki having being experienced in international tournaments changed her tricks converted second and 3rd matches and clinch the Gold medal.

Girls Single  U-13 final Montilly Pul defeated Taku Neha by 21-13 15-21 21-17 .

Boys Double U-13 Final Lobsang Chouidup pairing with Suraj Chetry of Tawang   defeated Nima Dorjee and Pakli Bagra by 21-12 19-21 21-16 .

Boys Double  U-17 Final, Kirto Nyorak and Raj Thapa defeated  Dekam Yomgam and Megi Riram of West Siang by 21-16 21-15

Boys Single  U-13 Final, Laa Robin settled the Gold medal by defeating  Pakli Bagra  23-25 21-13 21-9 .

Girls Double  U-13 Final, Napi Tayam and Taku Neha  defeated  Bishaka Kocho and Sania Ronrang of Changlang District Badminton Association by 18-21 22-20 21-12 .

Boys Single  U-15 Final Nikhil Chetry defeated Laa Robin by 19-21 21-13 21-11 .

Girls Single  U-15 Final, Dolma Tamang defeated Kenbi Riram  by 21-13 21-11 in straight

Boys Double  U-15 Final, Lobsang Chouidup pairing with Suraj Chetry of Tawang, defeated  Kipa Peter and Rakju Rigia of Kurung Kumey District Badminton Association by 21-11 21-13.

Boys Single U-17 Final, Laa Tukum  won the gold medal by defeating Kirto Nyorak by 21-16 21-13 .

Girls Single  U-17 Final, Dolma Tamang defeated Ingam Potom by 21-6 21-13.

Boys Single  U-19 Final, Laa Tukum defeated  Sonam Tamang by 21-13 21-9 .

Boys Double  U-19 Final, Kenjom Tacha pairing with Raj Thapa, defeated Asif Khan and Raja Gupta by 21-15 28-26.

Secretary ASBA and Chairman,  Sports Authority of Arunachal Bamang Tago while congratulating  the winners said that Lohit District badminton Association has lead the by hosting ASBA’s major calendar event away from the Capital for the first time.  Iam sure other District affiliated with ASBA will also contest to host this state sponsored coveted badminton event in days to come informed Chairman Organising Committee Baplalum Chiba.
