Arunachal- 6.9 magnitude earthquake near Along

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale jolted Arunachal Pradesh early on Saturday, but there was no immediate report of casualty.  The tremor occurred around 4 am with its epicentre locating in Tibet’s Nyingchi Prefecture, which is close to Arunachal.

The strong quake was followed by a magnitude 5 tremor around the same place in Tibet. The first quake had struck at a depth of about 10 km, while the second struck at a depth of about 6 km, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC ) reported that ” an earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.9 hit Nyingchi, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, in the early hours of Saturday.

No casualty has been reported after the quake which struck at 6:34 a.m. on Saturday (Beijing Time), Xinhua news agency reported. However, the quake caused power failure and building damages in a number of villages in the epicenter in Nyingchi City. The epicentre was monitored at 29.75 degrees north latitude and 95.02 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of about 10 km.
