Arunachal: 56 Khonsa ( west) ready for bypoll

Kheti village polling station has the highest number of electorates, 895, while Upper Chinhan village polling booth has the least number of voters, 86.   The counting of votes is scheduled to be held on October 24.

Concerning over the peaceful election of 56 Khonsa (West) assembly seat bypoll total of 16 companies of security forces were deployed, where only two independent candidates Chakat Aboh and Azet Hamtok are in the fray.

Speaking to media person IGP (Election) SP Hudda informed that total 16 companies of security forces had been deployed and supervised by 3 senior police officers to the rank of superintendent police, 9 officers to the rank of Dy. SP.

There  are 23 polling station,  every polling station has been deployed 2 sections of security forces including mobile patrolling.

Deputy Chief Election officers (Dy CEO) Liken Koyu informed that all preparation for the bypolls in Khonsa (West) assembly constituency of Tirap district is almost completed.

“Each polling station having four polling officials including a Presiding Officer, will be manned by one section of CAPF and 10 civil police,” Mr Koyu added.

DC Khonsa and District election officer PN Thungon inform that all polling personnel with poling materials has reached to the respective polling stations and polling will takes place from 7 AM.

Five major political parties of Arunachal, both ruling and opposition, have unanimously decided to field Chakat Aboh, the wife of NPP leader Tirong Aboh, who was shot dead in May, as an independent candidate for the bypolls.

The NPP leader, who was gunned down along with others by suspected NSCN (IM) militants, was the MLA of Khonsa West, where the bye-election will be held on Monday.

A total of 10,185 electorates will exercise their franchise at 23 polling stations of the constituency to decide the fate of the two independent candidates in the fray.
