Arunachal : 400 houses, properties worth of Crores damaged due to storm

Near about 400 houses badly affected while 200 partially damaged, government property worth of  crores damaged in devastating thunderstorm on March 29.

The powerful thunderstorm  that lashed capital on Thursday has devastated the city. Report of damage caused to public as well as government properties are pouring in from various parts of the capital complex.

The Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic, the lone govt run technical institute of Itanagar has suffered major damages. The electric supply to the institute has been disrupted and multiple damage has been inflicted to infrastructure of the institute.

Several trees which were uprooted blocked the main road that leads to the campus. Also electric high tension wire fell down on the road. The roof of both girls and boys hostel were ripped apart by the wind.

The hostels were flooded with rain water. This has forced students to leave hostel and arrange temporary accommodation in their friends and relatives house. Also the main academic block has also suffered heavy damages.

Almost all the windows of the building have broken and the glass wall at the main entrance is also completely damaged. Further the thunderstorm inflicted damage to faculty and staff quarters and temporary sheds

Meanwhile lecturer cum campus incharge Joram Arun has appealed to the concern authorities to kindly look into the matter and initiates relief measures at the earliest.

Director (Disaster Management) Kanto Danggen today morning carried out inspection alongwith his officials and subordinate staffs in and around the Capital complex and visited Papu Nalah, Rajbhawan and other places.

Danggen informed that some shops and gumti, residents made of OBT and bamboos were most affected and CGI sheets have been blown away. Tough the residents have in support of their family members, relatives and friends have been trying hard for repairing and maintenance  of their dwelling as the weather is good and supporting today. Some old houses have been collapse and capsized.

Capital Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan inform that the it was an unfortunate incident yesterday evening which have leave behind a trail of devastation in the capital complex by heavy thundershower, cyclone and rain. Apart of Birup Colony, Ajin Colony more than 90 dwelling have been affected itself in Itanagar while there are more than two hundred in Naharlagun while 15 resident in Nirjuli. While there are no report of any damage in Banderdewa area.

Apart of residents many schools have been badly affected but since the examination is going on so our target was to restore the schools so that the examination process do not get disturbed latest by Monday.

Worse affect is the power department and difficulty in supply in capital complex and expected that the loss could go more than crore. Power supply to few places of capital complex have been restored, the officers and officials including the linemen and technical are at the job and hope that normalcy in power supply could be done very soon and appeal the citizen to have patience and not to be panic.

District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), Papum Pare district, Tsering Youngzom while inform that the damages caused by thunderstorm last evening. As per the report received so far around 20 nos. of OBT houses have been damaged mostly under Yupia and Sangdupota circle. No casualties have reported from any parts of district

Power Department Chief Engineer (Transmission) State grid, though failed due to transient surge of lightening and a minor bamboo earth fault in the cyclone last evening, there has been no tangible damage to the State Grid, the grid is being restored gradually after ensuring all vital safety and protection parameters and post-strike health check of the lines and systems.

Power Supply to Capital Complex and other towns in central districts, may get delayed due to massive damages to the Distribution Systems at 33kv, 11kv and LT systems. Most of sectors in the Capital Complex are likely to get power by late evening today.

Grid Power to Ziro, Daporijo and Aalo restored. Pasighat, Roing, Tezu are being charged now as per reports. Though there has been criticism in some sections of media, our state has survived a massive cyclonic storm which hit the central Arunachal last night.

Perme however said there have been lots of problem in reaching the electric poles and towers in jungles and high mountain which takes some time and appeal the general public to maintain patience as department is for the service of the people.

However District administration and Power department sources said that 11 KV LT line near SP Capital, Niti Vihar, Pachali, near Directorate of Higher &Technical Education, AP Secretariat, Near Planning Office, IG Park Gate-I, C Sector Forest Colony Naharlagun LT Line near Government Higher Secondary School, 33 KV line of AP Sectretariate and several other places have been damaged.

The repairing and restoration work going on and in some places the power supply have been fully restores, repairing works at Niti Vihar, 33 KV line between Lekhi-Naharlagun, Forest Colony Naharlagun have been repaired.

The Balipara-Khupi line restored and power supply to Western sector of Bhalukpong and other parts are through. The line between Kathalguri-Deomali been also restored and the eastern parts of state is also getting the power supply today.

However local sources add that 33 houses have damaged only in Birup Colony near Rajbhawan, 2 at Itafort area, 12 labour barracks near Waii International Hotel, Two church one near Museum Colony while other at 6 Kilo area, One shiv mandir attached quarter at Mowb-II damaged while 8 houses in Mowb-II, 4 in Tagin Colony and 3 near museum, while more than 200 small OBT/SPT and few MIBT house have also been affected.oer House of RK Mission have also been badly damaged while few houses at C-I & C-II Sector affected by the cyclone yesterday.

IMC Councillor Pakyum Tugung, Tagru Tadik, Yumlam Minu, Donik Tayu,Tatung Tania have appeal the district administrating and state government to immediately provide relief assistance for the victims so that they can immediately take up restoration work.
