Indian Army’s esteemed Spear Corps organised the Hornbill Children Summer Adventure Camp from 15 to 19 Jun 2016 at Shivaji Nagar, Tezu. The camp was conducted by Dao Division and attended by 30 campers from all over Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The camp activities were handcrafted to inculcate the spirit of adventure, camaraderie, espirit de corps and overall personality devp to bring out the best in children in age group 9-18 yrs away from the comforts of their home. The camp provided a platform to the children for adventure activities like rock climbing, stream crossing and paint ball gun firing. While enhancement of education was ensured in training the children in first aid and medical emergencies, the physical prowess of children was tested in Yoga, Martial Arts,Horse Riding,Trekking,Tug of War and other sports activities.
The culinary skills of children were explored in cooking without fire and crew cooking. The cognitive skills of the children were assessed in quiz, debate and extempore competition. The closing ceremony and camp fire was graced by the distinguished presence of Maj Gen Ananta Bhuyan, SM, General Officer Commanding, Dao Division, Mrs Barnali Bhuyan, Chairperson, Family Welfare Organisation, Dao Division, MLA Mr Mahesh Chai, Senior Civil Dignitaries and other prominent citizens. The prizes in various events were given away by Chairperson Family Welfare Organisation, Dao Division .The fusion of culture was showcased with local children of Arunachal and Campers of different origin presenting cultural programmes which enthralled the entire audience.
Senior Military and Civil dignitaries interacted with all the children and shared their experience in the backdrop of camp fire. In his closing address, General Officer Commanding, Dao Division, appreciated the efforts put in by all campers over the course of the camp as well as the cultural evening. He emphasized upon national integration and unity in diversity which is the strength of our nation.
