Chirang district Unit of All Bodo Student Union (ABSU) has expressed resentment over non-supply of textbooks to Bodo- medium students in schools in the district by the Education department of the Assam.

Phanin Boro and Khanin Basumatary, president and general secretary of the student unit have criticised the State Education department for failing to supply textbooks for Bodo-medium classes of lower primary, middle English and high schools in the district.

As the new academic session has started in schools, the students need new textbooks for classes they have been promoted to. Due to this reason Bodo-medium students, who are mostly from the marginal section of the society, are likely to suffer later in the session, alleged Student leaders.

Meanwhile, the supply of Assamese textbooks to schools of the district is normal, which is a clear discrimination, the student leaders alleged.

The Bodo-medium students are not begging for mercy from the Education department in the form of textbooks. But it is their due right to get free textbooks as per the government policy and RTE Act at the beginning of the session, the leaders clarified.

The student group will launch an agitation if the demand of Bodo textbooks is not met by January 15, the leaders warned.
