  • A viral message is circulating on social media which reads, ‘Beware of scam- This Company can do fraud in the name of giving Smartphone for Rs 251’.
  • This is the new company and Company’s website is just 4-5 months old which started in September 2015 and
  • com’ address has been purchased by this month only. Message also reads, ‘company is claiming to sell the phone in just Rs 251’.
  • An investigation by Media people on the matter revealed that the company is new and its a 4-5 months old startup.

  • It is said in the viral message that Ringing Bell is the only company which sold a smartphone ‘Smart 101’ for Rs 2,999 and customers could not even get the confirmation after the amount paid online
  • Investigation also revealed that phone was sold online. While searching online, there were large number of customers found who still are waiting for phone’s delivery and registering their online complain
  • But it cannot be said that all customers faced this situation. Ashok Chadda, CEO of Ringing Bell has said that some customers may have faced some problems but we are giving deliveries.
  • The company, set up five months ago by Amity University graduate Mohit Kumar Goel, launched the device recently. It went up for sale tomorrow morning at 6am but given the huge interest in the ultra-low cost smartphone, the company’s website crashedfreedom-251-2

  • Indian Cellular Association(ICA) has written to Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad requesting him to get into depth of the issue, saying the price could not be below Rs 3,500 even after a subsidized sale. Ringing Bells, on its part, said the manufacturing cost of the phone is about Rs 2,500, which will be recovered through a series of measures like economies of scale, innovative marketing, reduction in duties and creating an e-commerce marketplace
